First of all, NO this IS NOT DJ Kou-G AKA Grooveman Spot of Jazzy Sport. Kou-G just happens to be a kind of euphemism of the common Japanese name Kouji. Anyway now that we're clear about that, this is a great mix with a lot of great artists all put together! I highly recommend this, and I will probably put some more of Kou-G's mixes up, though this is his only hip-hop mix (the rest are house mixes, which I also want to promote more of here). Anyway, excellent mix, don't miss out!!!

A solid release by Grooveman Spot. Not much of a jazz release, but a mellow release nonetheless. I like a lot of what Jazzy Sport puts out, and though I prefer Gagle and DJ Mu-R to DJ Kou-G, it's still not bad. Definitely take a listen, it's very likely you'll fall in love with it. Great stuff!!

I was wondering when to post this album..and thought now would be a good time. I picked this album up last summer from Tribe/Guinness Records in Tokyo after listening to it on the sample they had playing, and I loved it. Just as the artist and title name goes, this is a very chill bit of music, which is what I love. I figured something on the down-low like this wouldn't make its way online so I bought it.

Anyway, this album now has sentimental value to me. Why? Because I bought it from Mr. Nujabes at the store, and now he's gone. Sigh....so sad. Also listening to it brings me back to the store, and my time in Tokyo just chillin out and listening to this. Of course, you're not likely to have the same experience, but still, it's great music.

I'm usually a fan of most of the original productions used, and he always adds his unique spin to everything. It's fresh, and you should check it out.

According to what it says...

"Late night on Feb 26th 2010, in the Minato Ward of Tokyo, there was an accident on the expressway. He was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Shibuya, where they were unable to restart his heart."

This personally makes me really quite sad, as Nujabes and his music have always had a special place with me. I'm sure that like with many others, he was my introduction into this realm of jazzy hip-hop that I'm so infatuated with, and for that I thank him.

I was able to meet him once, working at the Tribe/Guinness Record shop in Shibuya, but damn, I wish I had talked to him some more. I always figured I would just see him again someday. I guess the next time I made it to Tokyo I'll be going to his grave to offer incense. That's just really really sad to think about....

Whoa, I originally downloaded this kind of reserved thinking it wasn't gonna be up to much and whatever, but jeez I'm SO glad I copped this one up! I have no idea who Re:Plus is, but this collection of music is nothing short of amazing. Sol by Cise Star is one of the dopest tracks I've heard all year with a kind of bossa nova production on the beat. A new album from K-Murdock of Panacea. I'm a huge fan of Panacea and they're easily in my top 3 all time favourites along with Binary Star and The Sound Providers aka Captions. Thankfully though Panacea has been pretty consistent with releases, and even though this is a solo album it doesn't disappoint in the least. Great album with great production and great lyrics. Just...perfect in my opinion. Can anybody top this in 2010?! We'll have to wait and see.

Well, there you have it. The first blog to ever post all of the Shiro Sagisu collections and the Loren and Mash collections! Wow, where'd this come from??? This is one of the dopest albums I've heard in a long time. Even though this is a 2009 release, this makes a great start to 2010 in my opinion. WE NEED MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS!! Fresh production with very dope sampling along with brilliant lyrics. I LOVE this album, and now I'm sharing the love. WOW. Just wow. I was thinking that DJ 411 album was going to make it as the best album of 2009, but then Substantial comes right up at the last minute with this masterpiece. If you don't already know, a lot of talent was put into the soundtrack for the anime show "Samurai Champloo" with names like Fat Jon, Nujabes, and Force of Nature coming through to produce the music. Then Substantial came along and did something which somebody probably should have done a long time ago; create smooth, meaningful, and amazing rhymes to these beats. The result is what I will have to call, the album of 2009.

This is my personal favourite out of the Shiro's Songbook series by far. Some of the tracks have a very "Evangelion" feeling to them which is nostalgic to me, but the lyrics and production all seem to just work perfectly on this album to me. It's smooth and mellow and funky and upbeat when it needs to be. Great mix of music, and if you listen to only Shiro's Songbook I would definitely recommend this one to be the best. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Nothing quite 'life-changing' to me on this album, but it makes for a very nice listen nonetheless. Check it out!!

This was the second Shiro Sagisu album, which you can guess by the title was just a remix album of the first album! So if you liked the first album and want to hear a slightly altered production on some of the songs, here you go. Once again, we have amazing lyrics with amazing voices bringing together amazing songs as always.

I realized that I should have perhaps given a better introduction of just who Shiro Sagisu is, as I don't think many know him. Before making these vocal albums, Shiro Sagisu was responsible for composing and producing video game music (Final Fantasy 6(3 in Europe and N.A. Grand Finale orchestral soundtrack) and anime soundtracks, which he still currently does (Bleach is perhaps the most well-known current anime that he is producing and composing for). Of course I have mentioned that he was responsible for the Neon Genesis Evangelion soundtracks, which is where he met up with Loren, Mash, and Hazel Fernandez. They were called together for the End of Evangelion movie soundtrack, and subsequently produced the VOX Evangelion soundtrack, which I think I might as well rip and upload here as well while I'm at it.

Nevertheless, this is a mixture of British vocals with Japanese production. Hope some of you at least are enjoying it!

This is sure an interesting album! It's quite short at about 37 minutes, and it's made up of mostly samples. Some I like, some I don't care for, but it is a very interesting combination of music in all. Some of the beats are worth the download alone in my opinion, with tracks like Join the Club. Either way, check it out and see which samples you like the most!

PS: Oddly at the end of track #18 "Suff in China" is an except of women speaking in Japanese rather than Chinese (I guess Suff Daddy wasn't aware of it?). They say ”あたしたちの秘密だよ hahaha" which means basically it's our secret hahaha for those interested.

The first of the Shiro Sagisu albums. This album is heavily influenced by the End of Evangelion film, including the perhaps infamous song Thanatos from the ending of the film. Nevertheless, the music selection on this album is wonderful. It's bluesy, jazzy, soulful, gospel-ish with an R&B flavour. Much like the Shiro's Songbook 2 that I posted a while back. I personally love the song Thanatos of course (I'm a huge Evangelion fan) but the song "Eye to Eye" also stands out as a beautifully written and performed song. Deep meanings behind the lyrics make this CD a great listen even 10 years later! Check it out

This is an independent underground mixtape with a kind of jazzy and mellow feel to it. Now I am not a particular fan of this kind of music, or at least I never was. But, times have changed,

and even music blogs need some diversity. I'm not exactly sure what type of genre this music fits into

but I would describe it as something like electro, funk, club hop. Rye Rye is from Baltimore, and her quick raps

that go hand in hand with an extremely fast beat, (I'm talking about Light speed BPM's) give off an energy that is

unmatched by any Hip Hop song. At this blog, we like chill hip hop, but as the other contributer, I've got to

show people what else is out there. I saw this live, and it was fucking crazy. Here are some pictures from the show.

Who can resist an album with a cat on the cover?! Anyway, I had to post this one because its such a beautifully done compilation of great songs and great artists. Not a mixtape mind you, but just a great selection of music all put together. I highly recommend this one as it really is a beautifully put together selection of music. Don't sleep on it!!

Very nice album by a well-respected DJ in my book. He worked with the Shinsight trio and with the Levitatorz (shows in the tracklist doesn't it!?) as the beat man, and this was his first own release as far as I know. I know he's done a lot of mixtapes as well long before this (including some really good ones with hydeout productions) but this was a very solid album with all new music. Just like his name predicts, the music is smooth, jazzy, and doesn't disappoint in my opinion. Check it out and props out to the original ULer!

Yeah everybody has been posting it and I decided to as well just for my friends who follow this blog and may not have seen it elsewhere! Decent album with a few good instrumentals (Dim Skyline for sure) but it kind of lacks that smooth jazzy feel on other parts of the album. Because of that, this isn't my favourite DJ Mitsu the beats album, but it's still better than what you'd hear on the radio for sure! Check it out at least!

This is one hell of a GOOD album. So much that I will call this THE ALBUM OF 2009!! The jazz samples on this album are unsurpassed in my opinion, and the remixes of the few hip-hop tracks on here are just amazing in my opinion. The only thing that could possibly beat this album this year could be Lady Paradox's new album dropping soon hopefully, but we will see. IF YOU LIKE JAZZ, AND IF YOU LIKE MELLOW HIP-HOP BEATS, GET THIS!

IF you have ever watched the famous anime "Evangelion" or enjoyed the music from that show and especially the movie "The End of Evangelion," you will DEFINITELY enjoy this. Very meaningful, if not a bit dark lyrics with amazing vocals and nothing less than an amazing production from the man behind it all, Shiro Sagisu.
